University lockdowns – three ways to make your student union mobile

University lockdowns are happening all over the UK. Eager Freshers are keen to start university life, meet new people and forge some independence. However, many have arrived, unpacked and found themselves hugely restricted in terms of what they can and can’t do, with some unable to leave their accommodation at all.

As a university or student union, you are being forced to walk a fine line between student safety and providing a well rounded university experience. There are reports of some students unable to get hold of basic supplies, feeling isolated and imprisoned and wishing they had never left home. In order to make university lockdowns less imposing, you will need to find ways of re-engaging students; they must be able to socialise within the boundaries of what’s safe and one way of doing this is to make the student union more mobile.

Here are our tips for helping students and universities this term….

1. Digital menus for shopping, takeaways and essentials.

Creating digital shop fronts and menus means that you can offer students everything from the most popular SU burgers or pulled pork fries to stationary, books and even loo roll.

You can create time slots for safe, socially distanced delivery or collection. Using stock counters will ensure that once something is sold out, it’s no longer available to purchase.

2. Order to dorm from any device

Anything that was once available from the student union, can be available online. Delivery or click+collect from campus should be a relatively straightforward exercise. By sharing a simple link or QR code with students, they can access online ordering from the comfort of their room – via mobile phone, tablet or laptop. You could even embed the shop on the university website.

3. Rule of 6 party packs

A fundamental part of the fresher experience is socialising and making new friends. Whilst the Student Union may not be open, students can still mix in groups of six or less. Why not put together party packs that can be safely delivered to campus accommodation and halls of residence? You can decide what items are on offer and tailor this to make sure that students are safe at all times. As restrictions change, so too can your offering.

Beat university lockdowns with F+B To Go.

F+B To Go Menus

F+B To Go is a feature rich, free tool that is simple to use, quick to set up. Online ordering is seamless, whether from home on in venue.  Universities can create branded, digital menus that can be embedded on their website, or accessed via link or QR Code.  There are fully customisable delivery and collection time slots. Item counters are in place so that the system will stop taking orders when stock has run out. Delivery areas can be defined and a live production dashboard fully tracks and monitors the order process.

In order to keep students incentivised, universities can offer promotional discount codes. These codes can be created and processed simply and quickly on the system. Payments are taken online so that the whole process is completely contactless and safe for both staff and customers.

There are no set up fees, no subscription fees for the software and no limits to the number of products on offer.  This tool is free to use for the whole of 2020, irrespective of EPOS, Stock system or menu management system.  Businesses of any size and any location can sign up on any device and be operational within the hour.
